Due to the drastic differences in 356 engines over the years of production we require 100% complete core engines shipped to us. We can supply core engines, but expect to pay a premium for them- they are seriously hard to find!!!

The 356 Porsche lost a great friend when the “Maestro” AKA Harry Pellow, passed away in 2003. There is absolutely no argument that Mr. Pellow was the foremost authority on the 356 engine and did a lot to develop them while keeping their vintage character, better known as “Keeping the 356/912 faith”. Mr.Pellow was a man that I looked up to, and believed in, and at the same time he would roll over in his grave to know the changes that we are making to the 356 to make it stay alive in the 21^st Century.

Over the years it has gotten harder and harder to rebuild the 356 engine as parts have become difficult to source and it’s near impossible to rebuild an engine without utilizing a dozen sources for even the simplest parts. Due to this many 356 specialist have retired and closed their tool boxes and this is where we come in!

The challenges associated with a 356 create a longer build time, more headaches for me and the result of that is a higher cost to do a proper rebuild. I keep with the faith that Mr. Pellow had with the 356 engine, and at the same time add a new and different twist to it. The 356 is a great HP engine and very fun to drive, when you add some more modern advancements (something the Maestro hated) the 1950s era technology benefits drastically. Every engine recieves a set of LN Engineering Nickies cylinders, JE Pistons, and ARP Head Studs.

If you are in need of a Power plant for your 356, no matter what it’s used for, we can help. We can do you a stock rebuild, or a slightly modified, more efficient engine, or a fully modernized, Fuel Injected 1720cc, 1800cc, and 1883cc engines that will make 100HP/liter reliably. All this can be done while your engine receives all our balance and blueprint work, followed up by a rigorous dyno session. The negative side of the 356 engine is the cost Vs HP factor. The base 356 engine, with customer supplied core weighs in at no less than 8,000.00 for a fully rebuilt engine. Some exotics can make that figure look like a child’s toy, but the results are astounding and the engine is way more than just a “356”.

Type IV conversion for your 356

The Type IV conversion (aka Porsche 914 engine) is by far the absolute best way to go for the 356 enthusiast that wants more power, better reliability, a more usable power band or just a lot of drivability and torque. For the same 10,000.00 figure as the stock rebuild for the 356 engine I can get you 150HP of Type IV power and make the engine bolt right to your STOCK 741 transaxle! There is NO CUTTING REQUIRED AND NO IRREVERSIBLE MODIFICATION MADE TO YOUR 356!!! This is by far the most economical way for people that actually drive their 356 to maximize their investment, especially considering that 160HP costs you the same as the factory 70-90 HP. The Type IV conversion requires none of the parts from your original engine, so it can be “pickled” and stored to sell with the car later to retain its value. A 356 with a Type IV engine built our way is great in traffic, back roads and literally HAULS ASS when you want to. If you don’t drive like a maniac, that’s fine because the Type IV is also very docile and torque filled which makes it easy to poke around town with. The Type IV is a much more modernly designed engine and gets better MPG, and lasts longer than even a stock 356 engine because it is super heavy duty. With our Type IV engine, equipped with our DTM cooling system the engine will bolt right to your transaxle, it will look like it belongs there and the engine only gains 15 pounds over a stock 356 engine!
