AIR SEALING TIN INSTRUCTIONS
for Stage II, III, IV
and Deluxe Kits
For standard engine bay "D" hole 18"x28" Type I, Ghia, Type 2 to
1971, all 181s

- Assemble shroud on engine case with intake manifolds.
- Cut the sheet metal pieces using the templates.
- Clamp the side pieces to the shroud tabs to determine seal position
height.
- Bend the two front (front is front of engine) 90 degrees as
determined by the height of the side pieces.
- Fit the pieces to the engine in their respective mounted
positions.
- File the edges smooth.
- Mount the sheet metal to the shroud.
- Install front bell housing tab with 8mm bolt to the bell housing.
- Position both front pieces with a clamp on the bell housing tab,
left shroud tab and right side piece.
- The front pieces will overlap each other over the center bell
housing tab.
- Approximate the center where the two pieces line up over the
threaded hole in the bell housing tab.
- Drill a pilot hole with a #30 drill bit.
- Remove the two pieces and drill the holes out with a 5/16" drill
bit.
- Re-install the two pieces using the 7/16'' screw at the bell
housing and the clamps on the left shroud tab and on the right side piece.
- Approximate the center where the front piece overlaps the left
shroud tab.
- With the clamp in place, drill a #30 pilot hole followed by a 5/16"
bit through both pieces.
- Do the same on the right side except you're mounting the right
front piece to the right side piece rather than the right shroud tab.
- Remove both pieces.
- Installing a NUT TAB in the shroud tab on the left side and a NUT
TAB on the RIGHT SIDE PIECE
- Insert a NUT TAB into the 5/16" hole of the left shroud tab.
- Hold the tab in position with a Visegrip.
- Using one of the #30 holes in the NUT TAB as a guide, drill a #30
hole through the tab.
- Insert a pop rivet into the #30 hole BUT DO NOT INSTALL THE RIVET
(it's used to keep the nut tab in place).
- Drill the second #30 hole in the NUT TAB. Remove the Visegrip and
move the NUT TAB UNDER the Shroud tab.
- Install the pop rivets from the top and pop them in.
- The front piece may now be screwed onto the shroud tab.
- Repeat this on the right SIDE PIECE where it bends to the same
level as the right side piece.
- Repeat the NUT TAB installation on the remaining shroud tabs (3).
- Bolt the two rear case to air seal mounting brackets to engine case
with 8mm bolts.
- Swing the mounting brackets down to the air seal level to
determine NUT TAB mounting location on the rear sheet metal pieces.
- Install rear/center NUT TAB where both rear pieces intersect.
Installation on either side OK.
- With all the 6 pieces installed, trim the outer edges and smooth
with 3M scrub pad.
- OIL DIP STICK (TYPE 4 ONLY).
- Remove rear right sheet metal piece.
- Temporarily install dip stick adapter.
- Measure the tube position to shroud surface (a).
- Measure tube position to crankshaft center (b).
- Remove the dip stick adapter and install the rear right sheet metal
piece.
- Determine where position (a) and (b) intersect and drill a 5/8"
hole in sheet metal.
