Let me just start my story by saying that TYPE 4's ROCK!!! Especially in a 62 Beetle!
Back a few years ago, I started a 62 Beetle project. As time went on and things progressed, I started investigating power plants. I ran into Jake at a show and was immediately drawn to the type IV with the DTM shroud sitting on the engine stand at his booth. Nothing I had seen looked like this - My first thoughts were "What the F@$K". Jake must of seen my dazed look and began to explain to me what I was staring at. After a long discussion and lesson, I thanked him for his time and went on my way thinking to myself - I wish I had one of those.
Fast forward 9 months and lots of research later on getting a reputable builder to build me a RELIABLE type 1 and I once again ran into Jake. We got to talking again and once again I was given an even more in depth lesson finally culminating into a ride in the "Bubonic Plague".
After that ride I was hooked.
We started formulating a plan and a short time later, I was riding high in a 62 with a TYPE IV 2056. The power and reliability of my type IV has been unbelievable and I have one of the smaller ones (displacement size) available. This was without a doubt the BEST thing I could of done. My experience with Jake before and then during the build was great. We discussed many different routes to take with Jake explaining the pro/cons of each the whole way through. There is nothing like showing up to a show, raising the rear deck lid and then watch the looks you will get.
I can say without a doubt or hesitation that I recommend (and have) Jake to anyone interested in having someone build a QUALITY power plant that will LAST.
I am so happy with his work that I have since sold the 62 but WITHOUT the type IV as I want to keep it for another project to begin shortly.
