I wanted to take the opportunity to say a few words about my experience with Jake Raby and his shop. I bought my Vintage 550 Spyder second-hand in 2001 and it came to me with a number of problems that Jake was able to straighten out. He even helped me sort out some non-engine-related items, including a problem with the front suspension (his particular fix required a lot of custom fitting and late hours on his part).
In 2002, I made a decision to replace the original 2109cc motor that came with my car with a 2109cc Raby Type 1. Jake helped me address some specific needs and wants, including sourcing the big Dellortos that I was looking for and hooking me up with Sharpbuilt who were able to prepare a beautiful carbon fiber shroud for my 911 cooling system. Through the build process, Jake and his team met every deadline and regularly kept me abreast of progress. Jake even invited me up to his shop (I live about 90 mins away) to participate in the dyno-testing of my motor.
After getting the car back, I have to say that I was literally stunned with the difference in performance. I thought it was quick before, but it is now literally a BEAST. I swear it feels twice as fast as before and revs like there's no tomorrow. It is amazing to me that the same size motor could feel so different.
I should also mention that during this project, Jake and Brent also helped me address another issue, which was replacing my original cable shifter with a Jamar rod-type setup. This is obviously not the kind of work that Jake likes to spend his time on, but he and Brent jumped right on it and got the shifter installed to where it works perfectly.
I want to give my complete endorsement to anyone who may be thinking of using Jake and Raby's Aircooled Technology. I can say from many years of working with folks in the automobile repair and restoration business that he is one of the most quality-oriented, hard-working, and honest guys I have encountered. He has gone out of his way on multiple occasions to help me and has been accessible at almost any day or hour (including weekends, one 4th of July, and even when he was out on a date!).
