Well here's my story and my experience with JAKE RABY(www.aircooledtechnology.com).First
,let me introduce myself.I'm "Danny" Rosado(Daniel Rosado),papun5880pr( on the
shoptalkforum )and danny5880pr (on this one). How i got to choose JAKE'S for my
new engine.I was posting on other forums asking where, who and what the other VW
owners recomend. My first choice was "MOFFOCO" but i got so many negative
feedbacks about them that i decide to search a little more, until i got a
recomendation to look up Raby's Aircooled Technology, and i did so. I went to
his page and looked all the possibilities and after a good look i decide to
give it a try,so i e mail him and got and answer, "DANNY,CALL ME"".I did and
the communication was very warm and friendly. After some talking we agree on the
details and the inicial down payment so my "BABY" could be on its way.Time went
on and telephone calls were exchange, all to ask for details and how it was
comming out, some changes to be done and some recomendations ,the expected
delivery date and so on .After a couple of months( you don't rush
perfection!!!) i got the " engine is ready word" from Jake and we arrange the
pick up and delivery for what it was the FIRST SIGNATURE SERIES in PUERTO
RICO,USA.(i have to mention that since the engine was going out of the US
mainland, the warranty was not on the deal, even when PR is a COMMONWEALTH of the
USA, but anyhow ,it will be expenssive to send it back for WARRANTY matters). I
search for a company to pick and deliver to PR and i found EMERYWORLD(www.emeryworld.com) which did the job for
a fair price. After much effort and work the engine was home and it arrived in
perfect conditions(except for the ussual check from US CUSTOMS) and ready to go
on my 1978 VW BUS.My engine was good ,but my brother gave me this one as a
birthday present which arrived one day before(HAPPY BIRTHDAT!!!!!).What started
as a 2165CC finished as a 2270CC "B" TYPE IV with DUAL 44 WEBBERS,a great
YELLOW and GREEN paint,MALLORY UNILITE IGNITION,96 MM JE PISTONS and some other
goodies i can't tell since i don't know to much from it.I get 25 miles per
gallon on city(if i don't push it).It is so powerfull(130HPof TORQUE and 107MPH
at 4,500RPM's)that it has BROKEN 2 TRANSMISSIONS(ONLY THE FOURTH GEAR). The
experience with jAKE was and is still good(sometimes i expect a little more)
for a man that has a lot of work, stress , family problems and personal stuff as
we all(including myself). One detail i have to mention is that the "PAPERS" that
the engine needed where sent by mail and never arrived, so i had to do some
guess work and calls to complete the installation(WITH JAKE'S HELP).I really
will appreciate if at least i got a copy of them(JAKE told me they were about
20 or so pages of information and for me is as important as the engine
itself).I got some detail from JAKE but is not what i expected for an engine
with the details and performance as his engines. Some communication was some
times impossible due to COMPUTER PROBLEMS(Jake ,get a DELL),bussy lines and
some "NOT RECEIVED E MAIL",but sooner or latter we did make contact and we
discuss our points of view and he allways did gave me the right information and
help needed.I remember when i e- mail him with an oil leak problem(it wasn't an
oil leak after all!!!)
and after some pictures and talking we found out that an oil breather was to be
hooked up to 2 oil preassure release valves on the heads!!!!(,REMEMBER THAT
JAKE??).That's why i insisted on the lost papers(which made me a pain in the
butt!!),because i think does little steps were explain on them.I know the oil
grade, the valve adjustment and proper milage check ups and milage to do so to
keep it running(so far is running perfectly),but from there ,i don't know
anything else(SORRY BUDDY).I wonder, JAKE keeps records on all the engines he
does?, and have imformation of each engine he makes?. It will be great if i can
get all the information from my engine.I CAN'T SAY NOTHING NEGATIVE FROM HIS
ENGINE(S),HIS SERVICE,HIS SUPPORT,HIS COMMUNICATION,HIS FRIENDSHIP AND HIS
PRODUCTS. RECOMENDATIONS AND SUPPORT ARE GREAT EVEN WITH HIS SHOP RUSH. HE IS
ALLWAYS THERE FOR HIS CUSTOMERS AND HE ALLWAYS ASK THE CUSTOMER BEFORE ANY
CHANGES TO AN ENGINE ARE DONE. I consider JAKE my friend and if i need another
engine, which i know it will be hard due to the excellent work he did on the
currently owned,'I WILL",without thinking it twice,go to
www.aircooledtechnology.com
and get it(EVEN IF I GET TO BE A PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!!!! again).Hey,after
all, that's the way I do bussiness and so does HE and anyone who wants to be
succesfull on a bussiness. When you whant positive feedbacks and do the best
you can for your customers and friends to be you have to put frienship beside
for the time you are working and keep it all on the bussines( THIS CASE IS NOT
ALLWAYS SINCE WE HAVE FRIENDS THAT ARE MORE THAN CUSTOMERS). He has been great
so far for the importance he gives to the details and his work.It is so that he
is getting all the "TOYS"he needs on his shop to do the things himself and have
no problems at all.FORGET THE ISSUE OF THE PAPERS,FORGET THE TIME TO
COMMUNICATE,HE IS AND WILL BE (since he is still youngh enought) THE BEST
BETWEEN THE BEST TYPE IV BUILDERS IN THE USA.Do you want to see his works "of
art",go to his web page and look for yourself, get the copies of VW TRENDZ and
fallow his work from top to bottom. A MONEY WELL SPENT. I am in his
"GALLERY"(that's how i call his "customers engines link" and proud of it. To
JAKE,"keep the perfect, great, excellent job" and to everyone who read this,my
recommendation when to getting a new engine for your ride is JAKE RAKY from
Raby's Aircooled Technologies".GOOD LUCK BUDDY;papun(that's how my friends call
me.If you call me DAnny is because you are a friend to be and if you call me
DANIEL,you are not my friend at all!! PS; THE ICOM DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH MY
POST,IS JUST MY FORM OF TAKING STREES OUT AND IDEAS OF MY
HEAD!!!.
