Hi,
First off let me introduce myself. My name is John Martese I bought my first VW Bug about 3 years ago now. That was one of my life long dreams. Anyway first off with the bug was to re-build the type1 engine. Did that and everything was cool. But one day my Mother in-law brought over a type4 out of a 914. So I started doing research on the web when Jake saw me on a VW forum and convinced me to ask my question is the Talk shop forum. Well to make long story a little shorter after 2 months of research and questions I decided to go forward and build this type4 and buy one of Jakes 2270 kits.
Let me tell you I am the kind of guy that will only buy something from someone that shows respect and makes me feel comfortable. Jake was all that. He was a phone call or e-mail away the whole time while I built this engine. He was always there with short cuts or fixes to a problem I created. That was and still is true customer service. I still call or e-mail Jake with a question and he is still right there for me. THANKS JAKE.
It was great the day I started that engine. WOW the power was and still is insane. I have scared the crap out of my Mom, Dad, and daughter. Watching them hold on to the handle above the glove box is awesome. The engine fires up every time I turn the key, its very reliable. Not sure what the gas mileage is cause the car is raced hard all over the place. I run a DTM cooling system witch is perfect for this engine. So let me sum this up real fast. The engine rocks if I had to do it all over again YES I would. Jakes had everything delivered on time he promised awesome horsepower (I didn't know this much horsepower though). The reliability, horsepower, and toughness of the engine are my favorite part. After having built this engine and driving it the price is soooo wealth worth it. But the best thing about this experience is that I built it and had a friend there for me the whole time.
