My name is Jason Pollard a.k.a. 56Stroker......... I own a 1956 Beetle(Oval)............
I want to spend a few minutes talking about my 2165cc/Venom Performance from Raby's Air-Cooled Tech.
It's been almost a year since my first thoughts of building a perfromance engine started. I was looking for the right person to handle the job. I had a chance to meet and become friends with Jake back around Nov. of 2001.
At that time I had no interest in building a 2.0 engine. However, things soon changed after I road in one of my friends cars at Bug-Jam. I was hooked!!
I makes no bones about the fact I'm a Type 1 man and always will be. When I began my search for someone to build my engine I knew of only one person. Jake had really impressed me when we first meet. However, more important than impressed is trust!!!
Whenever you decide to make the jump from what was traditionally put into a vw beetle, you better have someone you can trust. I talked with Jake for several weeks about what to build. i.e. 2165cc, 2275cc or bigger. I decided 2165cc.
The decision was pretty simple. It's streetable and dependable. Now Jake has all the specs and graphs on the engine. Let me just say this...... It's dam impressive!!! 170hp on the charts, 9:1 compression and I LOVE IT! I've had it in my car since April 2002. The only problems I've had is that I destroyed my stock tranny and that I'm not quite comfortable with the power yet. But I'm working on it. Remember, my car came with a 36hp engine in 1956. That's a wake-up call.
To conclude: If your thinking about building an engine and just aren't sure what you would like to have keep one thing in mind. TRUST! It's going to take money to build it. However, more important is it's going to take someone that you can trust to spend the money for what you payed for......
Thanks,
Jason
this letter was added after Jason sold his RAT engine. The new owner wanted to share his thoughts. - Webmaster
ok, here's the deal. my good friend Jason Pollard sold me his 2165 that Jake built for him. it's only got about 800 miles on it. it's now in my 1953 split window rag top bug. i was running a 2110, so it wasn't slow by any means. i didn't really know what to expect from the new engine but i knew it was better than what i had, i just didn't know how much better. i was total amazed when i put my foot down!! it seemed that i couldn't find the top of the power curve, it just kept pulling, 6000, 6500, 7000+, it just kept making power. another thing that i am so impressed with is that it is as smooth at 7000 rpm as it is at idle. jake says we can make it bigger and lots more powerful, i can't see a need for more. i have been playing with these cars for more than fifteen years and i have never felt the power in a street car that this one now has. great job Jake, no cooling problems, no leaks, no complaints!! you definitely get what you pay for!!!
Thanks,
Allen Ragsdale
