Here is an update from Mark…
Even with all used parts, the massIVe Type IV still came out on top!

Jake is pushing new developement when it comes to racing and my 914 in SCCA F Production. In 2004 we have campaigned the car in quest of the championship for the Southeast Division of SCCA(8 states). We fell short in points due our catastrophic oil system related engine failure at Barber in Birmingham. Jake and I still wanted to beat the 6 year running F Prod champion at the championship race this past weekend, even though we could not win in points. With JE Pistons not getting our pistons to us in time, it looked bleak. Jake felt my pain and suggested that he had enough junk yard parts to come up with some type of engine to at least get me around the track, maybe! With one week until the race, Jake and Brent worked day and night to come up with enough parts to get it together. They even found some piston rings in the garbage can. All bearings and bushings were used as was a very used and abused crank. The case was even in need of a align bore. My carbs and heads were bolted onto the junk yard dog and still hot from the dyno put in the crate for shipment. I installed it the next night and headed to the championships at Savannah.
Jake blessed the engine and said it would smoke a lot and lose power throughout the race but would stay together. Saturday, belching smoke and fingers crossed, I went out to qualify. Knowing the lack of power later on, I held on for dear life for the first 3 laps and qualified 4th out of 38 cars. Of course, everyone came and told me I was smoking for most of the run. Normally, a smoking race car has very limited life span. The junk yard dog came through and I finished first in class and 1400 feet in front of the past champion. Way to go Jake and Brent. Thanks for all your support and encouragement to try and go for the win with a trash can parts engine. Only the team at Aircooled Technology could pull off such a victory.

And Yes, Jake, I owe you big time. Mark

I have known Jake and Co. for over a year how. I met him over the Internet and we started a dialog on building a FULL RACE 914, SCCA race car with the rule book as your guide. I had been led astray by some other engine builders that had promised to build me an engine and then built it 40% over budget. Not a good idea for us working stiffs. We spent many a night on the phone in discussions of how he wanted to build this unique engine. He delivered a great running and reliable engine on time and on budget, more power and torque then I thought possible. I have used this car and engine to Finish 2nd in F Production for all the Southeast SCCA, that is 8 States. As a bonus I took the class win at the Porsche Parade this summer and came in the top ten best times of over 300 Porsches, both 6 and 4 Cylinder. The car is reliable and easy to maintain. Jake is always there to answer my calls, even if I am at the track. And you know, He has been right every time in diagnosing the problem over the phone. I consider Jake and Brent good friends. And as a bonus, they are the only people that are still advancing the art of Type technology. Tell him I said hello when you order that engine.
