Hello and welcome to the home of the "Type IV Torquer" This section of our website we will take you behind the scenes for a closer look at the engine that was chosen for this multi part series in Hot VWs magazine. We will be covering component selection, preparation, assembly, dyno tuning and last but not least a grueling cross country 2400 mile trip with the same engine installed in our test vehicle to gather data and prove the integrity and solid reliability of a performance engine based on the Type 4 platform.

For three days in early February of 2006 Raby's Aircooled Technology was visited by Dean Kirsten of Hot VWs. During this three day visit into "The 4th Dimension" Dean watched over my shoulder as I designed, machined, balanced, assembled and dyno tuned a complete 2270cc Type 4 conversion engine. When it was all said and done, the featured engine, based on our "2270 Type 4 Torquer" engine kit featuring our new "Leading Edge 200" cylinder heads developed an incredible 170HP and 180 lb/ft of torque !!! The same engine was then placed into our test vehicle (The bluebonic plague) for further data logging and ultimately it's 2400 mile trip from Cleveland Georgia to Sacramento California for the Sacramento Bug O Rama on May 28, 2006!

Each portion of the "Type 4 Torquer" build up will have it's own set of pages here that will help the reader to better understand what the engine is all about, how much it cost to create and even the differences in components to a comparable 2275cc Type 1 engine. The break downs will be comprehensive and even list the country of origin of the components listed!

If you are interested in learning more about this engine, we want to assist you. Please follow these links to various stages of the engine assembly that will be updated at the release of it's correlating story in the magazine.

We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Dean Kirsten and the entire staff at Hot VWs magazine for giving the Type 4 Conversion it's turn in the spotlight and for choosing our facility and engine program for the basis of The Type 4 Torquer!
