LE Stands for "Leading Edge", another mutual development of Hoffman Automotive Machine and Raby's Aircooled Technology! These heads are members are the newest generation of proven cylinder heads for the VW/ Porsche Type 4 engine. All "LE" series heads feature full CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining techniques. The CNC technology enhances repeatability between ports and chambers and therefore boosts efficiency all while reducing overall costs and allowing more performance! Frequently asked questions about these heads, answered: The LE190 is should be used on medium displacement engines from 2100-2316cc. The LE 190 is not recommended for engines with stock D or L Jetronic EFI The LE 190 is not recommended for use with a stock camshaft, or with stock displacement engines. The LE 190 is acceptable for applications up to 2316cc. The LE 190 has benefited from valve seat upgrades to eliminate dropped valve seats and related issues. The LE 190 does NOT utilize the stock head gaskets as original. These heads are set up to eliminate issues with these gaskets, per the VW Bulletin released in 1981. If you are looking for a bit more RPM than is offered by the LE 180 offerings, the LE 190 might just be the answer for you! This head offers a full 190 CFM of intake flow coupled to 140 CFM of exhaust flow. The LE 190 features a larger 44mm intake valve for not just more peak flow, but also more flow at lower lift numbers to enhance torque and throttle response for medium displacement engines. We retain the 36mm exhaust valve to attain the port ratios that we have found to work best with this head. As with all performance cylinder heads, camshaft selection is critical to proper operation and maximum efficiency with the best tuning. The LE 190 offers the famed 2.0 Porsche combustion chamber as well as our spark plug relocation procedures to further enhance efficiency. This chamber and spark plug location has consistently been a key factor in making more power from our engines while creating a stronger combustion chamber and cooler running cylinder head. The LE 190 is a great head for Type 1 conversion engines that make from 135-155 usable HP with revs of less than 6,000 RPM from 2270cc of displacement. The LE 190 is primarily manufactured for my engine division for use with our medium displacement engine offerings. We offer this head to the public as well, so if you are interested in a great flowing cylinder head that's just one level shy of 200 CFM, this is the head for you! As with all of our cylinder heads the LE 190 receives the best components and labor that can be supplied. All our cylinder heads feature updated valve seats, guides, springs and retainers and are sold 100% complete and ready to install onto your Type 4 engine. Please note that rocker arm assemblies and valve covers are not supplied with our cylinder heads, but they are available separately through our retail store. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical specifications for the RAT LE 190 cylinder heads: Head casting type- NEW 2.0L Bus castings Combustion chamber shape- exact digitized replica of the 2.0-914 combustion chamber Combustion chamber volume- 56cc+/- Spark plug location- 2.0 914 location. Plug relocated from conventional location to promote efficiency, chamber strength and aesthetics for 2.0 engine owners. Spark plug diameter- 12mm, reduced from 14mm to enhance chamber strength and help resist cracking related to potential over heating (should it occur) Valve sizes- 44mm Intake/ 36mm Exhaust Port work- Fully digitized CNC machined intake and exhaust ports Valve type- Stainless Steel Valve Springs- RAT single heavy duty. Will control valves to 6,000 RPM +/- (with single springs) dependant upon camshaft and valve train mass. Dual springs are optional for more revs. Valve spring pressures- 215#@ .500 lift/ 120# seated (single springs quoted) Retainers- Chromoly steel Intake manifold pattern- original 4 stud pattern, no alterations made. Port matched manifolds are not included in the price. Installer is responsible for port matching manifolds. OPTIONAL "3 studding" available at considerable expense
